Dr. Md Delowar Hossain is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) since March 2024. Before joining KFUPM, Dr. Hossain worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the SUNCAT Center for Interface Science and Catalysis at Stanford University, USA from November 2020 to March 2024. Dr. Hossain received his Ph.D. degree in Chemical and Biological Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2020. During Ph.D., He worked as a visiting graduate research student in the Materials and Process Simulation Center (MSC) at California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in 2018-2019. He has completed his Bachelors and Master's degree in Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering from the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. Dr. Hossain research works have been published in top-tier journals such as Nature Communications, Advanced Energy Materials, Journal of American Chemical Society, ACS Catalysis, Carbon, Material Today, Matters, Nano Letters, Chem Catalysis etc., and have received great attention in the field of electrocatalysis for clean and sustainable energy development.
Research Interest:
Dr. Hossain research focus primarily involves atomistic understanding of electrochemical catalytic processes (mainly water splitting, liquid waste transformation, biomass catalysis, CO2 valorization) that facilitate energy conversion and storage for renewable energy development, particularly using novel functional 2D heterogeneous electrocatalysts. He uses density functional theory calculations to understand electronic properties for materials of interest and elucidate the reaction mechanism and kinetics with the experimental and machine learning (ML) collaborations. His ultimate goal is to develop/design highly efficient and accurate atomistic theoretical model for sustainable chemical conversion systems that can create long-lasting changes to combat climate change.
