What inspired you to choose your field of study?

Materials Science and Engineering appeared to be an intriguing topic as it is expected to play a critical role in addressing fundamental challenges. Take, for example, batteries. Current batteries are facing concerns ranging from safety to a lack of material supply, among other things. Personally, I want to be able to address such challenges because they affect applications we use every day, such as vehicles and electronic devices.

Why did you choose KFUPM?

KFUPM has been a long-held ambition of mine since I was a kid. As a young boy growing up in Dhahran, I used to observe the KFUPM tower every day on my route to school. KFUPM has traditionally been regarded as the leading institute for learning, particularly in the sciences and engineering in the region. Moreover, my father (a professional engineer) graduated from KFUPM in 1995, and I desire to be as competent as him.

Do you have any advice for incoming Engineering students?

I would recommend that students participate in student groups such as the newly formed MSE students club. It is critical that students learn abilities such as communication, leadership, and teamwork. Student clubs are the ideal place to learn such abilities. Another piece of advice is for students to participate in undergraduate research. Undergraduate research encourages us to apply our knowledge in a rigorous academic setting and provides us with a fresh viewpoint. I am currently involved in research with Dr. Qasem Drmosh, an assistant professor at KFUPM. We are working on developing a thin film material that is transparent and has strong mechanical properties to replace conventional glass protectors​
