Faculty

Dr. Salman Noshear Arshad is an Associate Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM). He is also affiliated with the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Hydrogen Technologies and Carbon Management. Before joining KFUPM in 2025, Dr. Arshad served as a faculty member at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), where he established and led a research group working on multifunctional nanofibers and nanocomposites for sustainable energy, environmental remediation, and structural applications. His research combines materials synthesis, electrospinning, nanostructure design, and advanced characterization to develop functional materials with controlled composition, morphology, and interfacial and surface properties. Dr. Arshad’s research has been published in leading journals, including Advanced Materials, Acta Materialia, Carbon, ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering, Chemical Communications, Fuel, etc. He is also a co-inventor of a United States patent on the synthesis of surface modulated and high-strength carbon nanofibers.

Research Interests

Dr. Arshad’s research focuses on the design, synthesis, and characterization of nanostructured materials for sustainable energy and environmental technologies. His main research interests include:

  • Development of low-cost and scalable electrocatalysts for green hydrogen production and electrochemical energy conversion and storage
  • Carbon-based hierarchical, porous and composite materials
  • Electrospun functional nanofiber membranes for water treatment, air filtration, and environmental remediation
  • Upcycling waste into value-added chemicals and functional materials
