Dr Long Hu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM). He received his PhD in Optical Engineering from the Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China, in 2016. He subsequently held postdoctoral appointments at UNSW Sydney and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Before joining KFUPM, he served as a Lecturer at Macquarie University and as an Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (ARC DECRA) Fellow at UNSW Sydney.
Dr Hu's research focuses on advanced semiconductor nanomaterials and their integration into high-performance optoelectronic and electronic devices, including photodetectors, image sensors, memory devices, and photovoltaic systems. His work combines materials innovation, device-architecture design, and system integration. To date, he has published more than 135 peer-reviewed papers in leading journals, including Nature, Science, Nature Sustainability, Science Advances, Nature Communications, Advanced Materials, and ACS Energy Letters. His publications have received more than 10,000 citations, and he has an h-index of 59. He has also secured two prestigious research fellowships and an Australian Research Council Discovery Project, attracting more than AUD 2 million in research funding in Australia.
Dr Hu has supervised more than 20 higher degree research students, including 10 who have completed their degrees. He currently leads a research group developing self-powered multisensor systems that integrate gas sensors, image sensors, memory devices, and photovoltaics for applications in sensing, imaging, energy conversion, and intelligent electronics.
