Seminar on “Materials for the Future”

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering held a seminar on campus this week on Wednesday, December 7th. The Seminar was given by one of the iconic scientists in the field of Materials Science and Engineering. The NOBEL LAUREATE Prof. Konstantin Novoselov (Prof. Kostya), who earned the prize jointly for discovering the marvelous material of graphene, was the guest speaker and talked about the “Materials for the Future” in Building 70 at KFUPM.

Just 6 years after finishing his Ph.D. in 2004, he was awarded the Nobel prize for his groundbreaking work on graphene. Interestingly, he was the youngest Nobel laureate in any field since 1992. We truly believe that winning such a prize at such a young age is an inspiring case for our researchers and students at KFUPM. Not only his discovery is important to scientific societies, but it is extended to benefit humankind. At this inspirational seminar, the participants listened to a distinguished professor and scientist, who changed the industrial world with a material that was extracted from graphite; the basic element used in our pencils. This event was a great opportunity to ask and converse with such an inspiring individual.
